About Viga Analytics

Clinical Roots. Engineering Rigor. Environmental Mission.

Viga Analytics was founded by a registered nurse turned healthcare data engineer who kept seeing the same gap: environmental factors reshaping where care is needed, and nobody connecting the data.

01

Started at the Point of Care

The founder's career started as a registered nurse, delivering direct patient care in complex healthcare settings. Working at the bedside, they saw firsthand how clinical workflows produce data, and how much gets lost or distorted between what a clinician captures at the point of care and what the systems downstream actually need. Documentation requirements collide with care delivery. Clinicians record what the workflow allows them to record, not always what a quality measure or report will require. That gap starts before the data ever reaches a database.

02

Moved Into Healthcare Data Engineering

From there, the path led to healthcare data analytics and engineering, leading teams that built reporting infrastructure, data warehouses, and analytics platforms at academic medical centers and safety-net health systems. The technical pipelines worked. But the same problem kept appearing: if the data entering them was wrong, or if nobody downstream was checking whether the output matched clinical reality, the pipeline just delivered bad data faster.

03

Specialized in Behavioral Health Reporting

Over time, a deep specialization developed in behavioral health quality reporting, particularly CCBHC measures, Medicaid compliance, and the specific data challenges that come with community behavioral health settings. The distance between what a clinician documents and what a quality measure requires is larger here than almost anywhere else in healthcare.

04

Recognized the Environmental Gap

The more the founder worked with population health data, the more environmental factors showed up as the invisible upstream driver. Communities with wildfire smoke exposure had rising respiratory utilization. Counties with PFAS contamination had elevated renal and oncology burden. But nobody was connecting the environmental data to the health system planning data. The tools to see it didn't exist, so they got built.

05

Founded Viga Analytics

Viga Analytics was incorporated as a Public Benefit Corporation because environmental health intelligence shouldn't be locked behind enterprise paywalls. The platform fuses data from EPA, CDC, CMS, NOAA, Census, and other sources at the county level, making it free for anyone to use. The consulting work contextualizes that data for specific organizations and geographies. The mission is in the articles of incorporation.

The Problem We're Solving

What We Believe

Environmental factors are reshaping where care is needed, but the data to see it is scattered across a dozen federal agencies, and nobody is connecting it to health system planning. Air quality data lives at EPA. Disease burden data lives at CDC. Provider supply data lives at CMS. Climate data lives at NOAA. Each agency publishes independently. None of them fuse it at the community level.

Health systems plan service lines without environmental context. Public health departments write community health needs assessments that include demographics and chronic disease rates but leave out air quality, water contamination, and wildfire smoke exposure. Advocacy organizations make the case for underserved communities without the data to show where environmental risk and provider shortages compound.

The data exists. The tools to connect it didn't. That's why Viga exists: to fuse environmental health data at the county level, make it free to access, and help organizations act on what the data shows.

Why This Background Matters

Few people have delivered patient care and built data pipelines.

Most data consultants understand the technical side: ETL, data modeling, warehouse architecture. But they have never sat at a bedside, documented in an EHR under time pressure, or seen firsthand how clinical workflows produce the data that reports depend on. That combination of clinical and technical experience shapes everything about how Viga approaches both environmental health intelligence and data validation.
